Marine trades workshops held at Shead

The following is a transcript of the article published in the Quoddy Tides December 13, 2019 issue. Thanks to the Quoddy Tides for the photo and allowing The Boat School to reproduce this article.

While The Boat School buildings in Eastport await a major overhaul, the recently refurbished industrial arts building at Shead High School is the “home away from home” for The Boat School’s marine trades education programs. In partnership with Shead, The Boat School sponsored three workshops this past fall. The workshops, designed for boat owners and beginner technicians, were instructed by boatbuilding instructor Dean Pike.

Pike emphasizes, “Each day-long workshop is a compressed version of elements from our boatbuilding technology program curriculum.”

Local recreational boaters, boatyard employees and curious adult learners participated. Basic boat winterization, marine systems and marine composites and re- pairs workshops featured classroom lectures and shop demonstrations.

The Friends of The Boat School Marine Trades Development Corporation is a non- profit charitable organization that owns the over eight-acre campus on Deep Cove Road. More information is available at <www.theboatschool.org>.
